Amanda Dowdy was born on May 5, 1990 in Leander, Texas. The daughter of Sam and Rhonda Dowdy, she grew up the youngest of four siblings (brothers Sam and Dan, sister Michelle).
Amanda graduated from Lexington High School in Lexington, Texas, before attending Texas Tech University. During her collegiate years as a Red Raider, Amanda was a two-time All Big-12 recipient and solidified her name in Tech’s record books as the career kills leader (rally scoring era) and single match kills record holder (all eras).
After graduating from Texas Tech in 2012, Amanda went on to compete internationally in Germany and Puerto Rico before stepping away from indoor volleyball in 2013. In 2014, she brought her skills to the beach and immediately began making an impact. Amanda’s AVP debut saw her garner four top-five finishes and the 2014 AVP Newcomer of the Year Award. In 2015, Amanda earned a career-best third place finish in Chicago and competed for Team USA on both the Continental and World Tours, earning her career-best finishes to date on the international circuit.
In the offseason, Amanda enjoys spending time in Texas with family and friends. She also enjoys a variety of outdoor activities such as hiking, standup paddling, camping and swimming. Amanda loves traveling and the adventure of exploring new places. One of her favorite activities while traveling is to find a local coffee shop so she can spend time journaling, reading, and drawing. One of her favorite books is "The Shack" by William P. Young and you can occasionally find her sketching portraits & landscapes in her free time. Amanda also loves to take advantage of Austin's live music scene. Some of her favorite artists include Zac Brown Band, Jason Aldean, Mat Kearney, and Ed Sheeran.
